This class combines maths and science in a dynamic, student centred format, where the two subjects are seamlessly integrated based on the topic at hand. The class structure includes a maths session, followed by a short break, and then a science session, but often the two will overlap, allowing you to see how math directly applies to scientific concepts.
In this class, maths is not just a separate subject—it’s deeply connected to the science we explore. Topics will be chosen based on the needs and interests of the students, and will often merge to offer a more holistic understanding of how math can be applied in real-world science. Some examples of the integrated topics include:
-
Algebra: Develop an intimate understanding of formulas, using pendulum play to ascertain the variables in the formula, and how they interact with each other.
-
Trigonometry: Take trigonometry out of the book and bring it alive by measuring the height of a tree, and by drawing a mathematically accurate sine wave using the unit circle. See where else in nature sine waves are found, and learn how a human ear works.
-
Chemistry: Learn how to calculate the number of atoms in real-life materials by combining hands-on measurements with the power of mathematical formulas and scientific reasoning.
-
Biology: Experiment with proteins from your own body to break down the starch found in bread and learn how to present the data collected in a graph
-
Physics: Explore the fascinating concept of spacetime curvature using real-life models that bring the effects of gravity and the bending of space to life in a hands-on, visual way.
In every lesson, you’ll experience how maths is more than just numbers and equations—it’s a tool that unlocks deeper understanding in the world of science.
